A new matchup between Phil Galfon and Brandon Adams has just started as a part of the Galfond Challenge. You can find all the details in this article.

The long-awaited Galfond Challenge is returning after a six-month pause. Brandon Adams, who is most known for his participation in high-priced live events, is hoping to defeat the invincible Phil Galfond in the most unique match in the tournament’s format.

Who is Brandon Adams?

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Adams is a 42-year old poker player and an author with a Master’s degree and a doctorate obtained at the world-famous Harvard University. It was during college when he discovered his passion for the game. Since then, he has participated in a number of live events with the first one being WSOP Circuit in May 2005 where he managed to finish 21st and earn $14,765.

Just eight months later, Adams was able to secure his first six-figure bankroll, earning $114,475 in a $10,000 WSOPC Tunica. After that, he almost managed to win a WSOP bracelet in 2008, finishing second after Men “The Master” Nguyen. His largest prize is $819,000, which was rewarded to him for winning a $50,000 buy-in event at the 2017 Poker Masters. With $5,198,642 in live tournament victories, it is no mystery why Brandon Adams is regarded as a successful cash player in Vegas.

Galfond Challenge Live

After a six-month pause in the heads-up challenges caused by an early finish of the Bill Perkins and Landon Tice matchup, Galfond Challenge has returned. The battle between Phil Galfond and Brandon Adams will last until 30th July. As mentioned previously, Phil is undefeated against his rivals: VeniVidi1993, ActionFreak, Daniel Cates, Chance Kornuth, and Bill Perkins. Currently, his profit equates to $726,500.

The latest Galfond Challenge matchup is going to take place in an interesting format. PLO will be played live in Las Vegas at one of the Resorts World Las Vegas clubs for $100/$200. The length will not be determined by the number of hands played, but rather by the time passed. The agreed time limit is 40 hours. In a case if Brandon Adams wins, an online rematch will take place right away.

First Session Results

Unfortunately to everyone, the first session was not broadcasted professionally. Brandon Adams live-streamed it on his Instagram, however, the game was hard to follow and cards were not always readable. Phil is expected to publish an additional session report on some of the hands.

Brandon summarized that the total profit was $15,700 or 78.5bb. There is no information on how long the session lasted.

What’s also interesting is that another “invincible” US player, Phil Hellmuth, will begin his new match tomorrow. As part of High Stakes Duel 3, he will compete against sports commentator and Poker After Dark competitor Nick Wright.
